PSU WNY Inaugural Gala a success!

The Western New York Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association hosted its inaugural annual gala on Tuesday, May 11th at the historic Buffalo Club. Over 70 Penn State faithful from Western New York, Rochester, and even as far away as New York City turned out to welcome Nittany Lions assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Mike McQueary back to Buffalo. Additionally, Nittany Lions football alumni Bryan Scott, Paul Posluszny, and Lydell Sargeant of the Buffalo Bills were special guests of the Chapter. Their presence added a special element to the exciting evening. Read more »

Gene McCarthy’s Irish Pub Events

Since McCarthy’s Pub let us put up Penn State paraphernalia and has become our home for all Board Meetings & football gatherings, we wanted to let you know about the Better Beverage Club that meets there on a monthly basis. The first Monday of every month (except in April which is the 2nd Monday) people gather for a Beer or Wine tasting, open bar, and dinner all for $25. The place fills up nicely, and makes for a great atmosphere and lots of fun. Click Here for a list of the dates and the menus.

THON 2010 Raises $7,838,054.36

The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, affectionately referred to as THON, is a yearlong effort to raise funds and awareness for the fight against pediatric cancer. Since 1977, THON has raised more than $61 million for The Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Children’s Hospital. Your passion and dedication to spreading awareness about the problem of pediatric cancer will help bring us one giant step closer to finding a cure. There is a place for all volunteers in the THON community! Take some time to read on about the many ways that you can get involved to support THON and the kids. To learn more, please check out the THON Website, and thanks for your support!

Admission Volunteers

There is a small group of PSU alumni who are “Admission Volunteers”. They attend the local college and high school fairs and represent Penn State. We are in need of several more people who would like to give some time to this activity. The fairs are typically during the day, mostly in the morning, so the representative(s) would have to be available during that time period. However, several are in the evening as well. One large event is the National High School Fair in the spring at the Convention Center. It runs for 2 days and 1 evening. If anyone is interested or has any questions, please contact Tom Valentine at tvalentine6@verizon.net or (716) 542-4550 and reference the WNY Chapter. If Tom is unavailable, you can reach the Chairperson of Alumni Admissions Beth Mabry at bmabry@roadrunner.com
